Coughton Court

Coughton Court has been the family home of the Throckmorton family from Tudor times to the present day. The magnificent central Gatehouse dominates the view on arrival, the Tudor courtyard is complemented by an Elizabethan Knot garden, and formal gardens. A new 1.5 acre Flower Garden in the old walled garden by the lake was opened in 1996 and a Bog Garden in 1997. The house has one of the finest collections of family portraits and memorabilia and its associations with the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 provide a fascinating insight into English history. Exhibitions covering the Gunpowder Plot, The Gardens, The Collection of Children's Clothes of the Throckmorton family are all free to visitors. The Gift Shop, Plant Centre and Restaurant complete a great day out.
